About Sally

Who is Sally?

The alias is composed of three name segments dear to my heart. I never had the chance to get to know my grandmothers – who were both incredibly smart women for their time. It seems in death, I find more about them then I could have ever understood in life. They were both phenomenal women. Through my writing, something they both loved, I find myself experiencing a connection with them. A connection I never truly got to have before they were untimely ripped from this world. This alias, is to honor them in memory.

What’s the point?

Some say free writing is one of the worlds worst evils, but until then, it’s a quick release to drain my heart before it becomes swelled with hate, or sadness, or too much of anything. I may still fear the exposure of being vulnerable, however, through an alias, I can still get the weight off of my chest.

Some days it isn’t just my own weight I carry – some days its the burden of my generation. The infamous generation. It’s too often that many adolescents, teenagers and young adults are lumped into stereotypes and have their opinions shrugged off, because what do we know. But we are the leaders of tomorrow. We don’t always stand on the same page of opinions as others, but that’s okay. The world is a changing thing, no one can expect things to stay the same. The world, society, humanity is a thing far from static. As we grow, we have to adapt to these changes. We don’t ever stop growing, we don’t ever stop changing.

Unfortunately, some people do stop learning. They stop opening themselves up to new ideas, and that’s what builds the ignorance behind too many problems in our world. So why not open up to the ideas? I’m taking a step towards erasing the stigma. The stigma that stands behind many taboo subjects. The stigma that stands behind mental illness. The stigma behind my generation.

Sincerely yours,

Sally Jean Horwood
